REPORT ON ONGOING COURTESY AND ADVOCAY VISITS BY APHPN PLATEAU BRANCH

The Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria (APHPN), Plateau State Chapter, continued with the courtesy and advocacy visits to key stakeholders in the health sector to promote collaboration and address public health challenges within the state. Led by the Chairman of APHPN Plateau, Prof. C. A. Miner, the visits took place on various dates in 2023 and 2024.

  1. Visit to the Chief medical Director, Jos University Teaaching Hospital (JUTH) – March 14, 2023
  2. This visit was conducted to introduce newly elected exco to the Chief medical Director who is also a member of the association.
  3. The continuation of research activities geared towards improving health care in the institution was also discussed. Initial reports of a study done for the A & E was presented to the CMD.
  4. The CMD warmly received the exco gave assurance of his continued support to the exco and association at large.
  5. Visit to the Chief Medical Director, Bingham University Teaching Hospital (BhUTH), Jos – November 9, 2023:
  6. APHPN highlighted the importance of collaboration on public health issues and invited qualified staff of BhUTH to join the association.
  7. The Chief Medical Director warmly received the delegation and pledged support for public health activities by APHPN.
  8. Visit to the Chief Medical Director, Plateau State Specialist Hospital, Jos – November 14, 2023:
  9. APHPN reiterated the need for collaboration in addressing public health challenges in the state and a need to create a public health department in the facility.
  10. The Chief Medical Director expressed readiness to work with APHPN and support public health programmes in the state. He also stated that expansion of the hospital to include new departments was ongoing.
  11. Visit to the Honourable Commissioner, Plateau State Ministry of Health – November 14, 2023:
  12. APHPN discussed the importance of partnership in improving public health services.
  13. The Honourable Commissioner assured APHPN of the ministry’s commitment to collaboration and support for public health initiatives.
  14. Visit to the Head of Office, APIN Public Health Initiatives, Jos – February 28, 2024:
  15. APHPN reiterated the need for collaboration and discussed specific areas of partnership.
  16. The Head of Office pledged support for APHPN’s efforts and expressed willingness to collaborate on public health programmes in Plateau State. He also noted that he would encourage the many eligible potential APHPN members in his organization to join the association.

Conclusion

The leadership of APHPN Plateau Branch were warmly received, and there was a commitment from the organizations visited to collaborate with APHPN in supporting public health initiatives in Plateau State and encourage qualified members to join the association.
