The Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria (APHPN) Plateau State branch was honoured with awards by the national body at the just concluded Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the association held in Akure the Ondo state capital from 10th to 15th March 2024. This AGM also marked the golden jubilee of the association.
This conference attracts members and stakeholders in different field of public health and preventive medicine all over the country. Different activities were carried out during the conference, with a view to improving public health practice and disease prevention in the country and the world at large.
Plateau State was well represented at the conference. Many of our members were in attendance both physically and virtually. Some members also presented abstracts at the conference, making physical and virtual presentations. We had at least 3 abstracts from the state accepted for presentation at the conference.
One of the high points of the conference was the presentation of awards to deserving members and branches. In this regard, our branch, APHPN PLATEAU STATE CHAPTER was awarded special commendation ‘As the most active APHPN state branch’. It was presented by the APHPN president Prof. A. Isara. Receiving the award on behalf of the association was the state chairman Prof. Chundung A. Miner, who could not hide her joy. She thanked the national body for recognising us, stressing that her chapter did not do anything with the intention of winning an award, but that this recognition will galvanise us to even work harder.
Also Prof. A. I. Zoakah, a BOT member of the association and the leader of the association in Plateau state was also given an award of meritorious service by the former governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, ‘in recognition of his dedicated service to APHPN as Chairman (2001-2005) at the conference. These two special awards show that our branch is highly recognised at the national level and we will work hard to make the association even better.
