*Day 2 of the APHPN National President’s Visit to Bayelsa State*
*Yenagoa, Bayelsa State – 19 November 2025*
The Bayelsa State Chapter of the Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria (APHPN) continued its scheduled engagements as the National President’s official visit entered Day Two.
During the visit, the Executive Secretary reiterated the Authority’s commitment to creating an enabling environment that supports public health research and evidence generation. He also provided comprehensive insights into the structure and operations of the BHIA scheme, outlining key components including the formal, informal, student, and vulnerable group programmes.
Dr. Agada encouraged the Association to intensify advocacy for increased enrolment into BHIA, noting that wider participation remains critical to expanding access to quality healthcare services across Bayelsa State. He urged members to strengthen stakeholder engagement and carry out community-wide sensitisation to raise awareness about the benefits of the scheme.
Responding, the National President of APHPN, Dr. Terfa Kene, commended BHIA for its progressive initiatives and proposed the development of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BHIA and APHPN. This partnership, he stated, would formalise collaboration, enhance community advocacy efforts, and support research-driven improvements in health insurance coverage in the State.
The Bayelsa State Chapter appreciates the warm reception accorded by BHIA leadership and reaffirms its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote equitable access to healthcare and strengthen the State’s health system.
