About APHPN
The Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria (APHPN) is a professional association made up of physicians who, beyond their primary qualifications, have additional postgraduate training(s) in various aspects of Public Health/Community Medicine. The Association which started in Nigeria in 1974, was registered with Corporate Affairs Commission on 5th September, 2007 with CAC No 130088. The association has a corporate office domiciled in the institution/establishment of incumbent National President and a liaison office at the FCT, Abuja.

The Association is open to all registered medical and dental practitioners in Nigeria with recognized post-graduate qualification in public health and/or community medicine. Membership is ordinarily acquired through the state branches of the association but in the absence of such a local branch, such persons may do so directly with the national body.
APHPN has six (6) categories of members – Ordinary Members, Fellow Members, Life Members, Senior Members, Associate Members and Honorary Members.
Members of APHPN work at all the three tiers of health care delivery in Nigeria and with international agencies and Non-Governmental Organizations. They provide promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative health care services. Some members are also trained and skilled in health management, leadership and policy; and are involved in health policy formulation, program planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
Ordinary Members
Ordinary members are registered medical and dental practitioners in Nigeria with recognized/registrable post-graduate qualification in public health or community medicine other than Fellowship.
Fellow Members
Fellow members are medical and dental practitioners in Nigeria who have registrable professional fellowship in Community Medicine.
Life Members
Life members are previously ordinary or fellow members who are 50 years or older, had continuously been financial members for at least 5 years and pay a lump sum membership fee of 10 years within one year of their application for such membership.
Senior Members
Senior members are fellow or ordinary members who have been financial members continuously for at least 10 years and are now retired from active service.
Associate Members
Associate members are medical and dental practitioners who do not possess registrable postgraduate qualifications in public health or community medicine but are in cognate public or community health practice and desire to be members of the Association.
Honorary Members
Honorary members are men and women of distinction in medicine and dentistry or kindred sciences who are not ordinarily eligible to be members of the Association, elected by the Council of the Association and approved by the Annual General Meeting.

Our Organizational Structure
The national officers of the Association include the President, Vice-President I, Vice-President II, Secretary-General, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer, Publicity Secretary, Internal Auditor and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Community Medicine and Primary Health Care, Other officers may be appointed from time to time as deemed necessary for the proper conduct of the Association’s affairs.
In addition, APHPN has state branches headed by a State Chairman and with a State Deputy-Chairman, State Secretary, and State Treasurer as other members of the State Council.
For effective management of the Association, there are five (5) main Caucuses – Occupational Health Caucus, Health Management Caucus, Reproductive Health caucus, Epidemiology Caucus, and Environmental Health Caucus. Each of these Caucuses are headed by Fellows of the Association.
The Patron of the Association is the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
