The Plateau State Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nicholas Baamlong, today led a press conference to commemorate World Health Day 2026, aligning with this year’s theme, “Together for Health. Stand with Science.”
In his address, the Honourable Commissioner emphasized the urgent need to prioritize research, innovation, and data-driven decision-making as critical tools for strengthening healthcare delivery across the state. He noted that leveraging science and evidence-based approaches remains key to building a resilient health system and improving the health and well-being of the population.
He acknowledged the contributions of key partners, including the Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria (APHPN), World Health Organization (WHO), and the Plateau State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (PLASCHEMA), among others, for their continued collaboration in advancing healthcare in Plateau State. He particularly commended APHPN for leading the coordination and celebration of this year’s World Health Day activities in the state.
Speaking on behalf of APHPN, the Plateau State Branch Chairman, Prof. Chundung A. Miner, appreciated the Plateau State Government for its commendable strides in improving healthcare delivery. She further expressed gratitude to the government for not only recognizing the association but actively engaging and involving it in key health sector initiatives.
The event reinforced the importance of strategic partnerships and the deliberate use of science and research in achieving improved health outcomes for the people of Plateau State.
