APHPN Invites Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs as Keynote Speaker for 2026 National Conference in Maiduguri

Maiduguri, Borno State — The Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria (APHPN), Borno State Chapter, has formally invited the Honourable Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Tanko Yusuf Sununu, to serve as the Keynote Speaker at its 2026 National Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference, scheduled to hold in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The prestigious national conference, which will take place from Monday, 9th to Friday, 13th February 2026, will be hosted at the Muhammadu Indimi International Conference Centre, University of Maiduguri. It will be held under the theme:

“Health in the Crossfire: Delivering Health Services in Conflict and Crisis.”

According to the organisers, the 2026 conference is historic as it marks the first time the APHPN National Conference will be hosted in the North-East geopolitical zone. The choice of Maiduguri underscores the association’s commitment to addressing public health challenges in conflict-affected and humanitarian settings.

In extending the invitation, APHPN highlighted the Honourable Minister’s pivotal role in humanitarian interventions, poverty reduction, and alleviating the suffering of crisis-affected populations across Nigeria. The association noted that his insights and policy perspectives would be invaluable in shaping discussions on strengthening health systems resilience in conflict and emergency contexts.

The conference is expected to bring together public health physicians, policymakers, academics, development partners, and other key stakeholders from across the country and beyond to deliberate on innovative strategies for delivering sustainable health services in fragile environments.

APHPN further expressed its readiness to pay a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister to formally brief him on the strategic objectives of the conference and the distinguished role reserved for him during the event.

The association looks forward to hosting the Honourable Minister in Maiduguri and to fostering collaborations aimed at repositioning health systems for resilience and improved outcomes in Nigeria’s North-East region.
